2015 - Visitors from Grapevine

Golfers in TexasWe enjoyed the visit of a delegation from Grapevine from Wednesday 27 May until Tuesady 2 June. They visited various parts of West Lothian, attend the Scottish Pipe Band Championship and the West Lothian Highland Games in Bathgate. We also took them further afield to The Kelpies, Glasgow and East Lothian.

A successful Race Night and Christmas Raffle helped boost the Association's funds, which are used to facllitate exchanges between Grapevine and West Lothian.

In June, a team of young golfers from Grapevine and Colleyville competed with young West Lothian golfers for the Gallagher Trophy, presented by Steven Gallagher for this annual competition, which alternates between Texas and West Lothian. West Lothian won on this occasion.

June 2013 - Delegations from Grapevine visited West Lothian

Edinburgh BotanicsSix young golfers from Grapevine, along with their coach and some parents, visited West Lothian from 11 June to play 3 games against six young West Lothian golfers in the annual Gallagher Trophy match. The match was won by West Lothian and the trophy was presented to them by Stephen Gallagher at a dinner in Bathgate Golf Cluby.

A group of visiting school kids from Grapevine were hosted by Linlithgow Academy pupils, staff and parents in June 2013.

A delegation of officials, councillors and wine pourers from Grapevine visited West Lothian from Saturday 15th June until Saturday 22 June. They enjoyed Linlithgow Marches and many visited local attractions as well as Stirling Castle, The Falkirk Wheel, Edinburgh Botanical Gardens, Glengoyne Whisky Distillery, and The Trossachs. Many of the delegates were home hosted and the Association are looking for people who can help host our guests in the future, particularly volunteers who can accommodate one or two guests in their home for a week. A culinary student from Grapevine spent two weeks with West Lothian College and on work placement at The Champany Inn.

March 2013 - Fundraising Dinner at West Lothian College

A very successful dinner was held on 22 March 2013 at West Lothian College to help raise funds for the forthcoming visits from Grapevine. Students, supported by West Lothian College staff, prepared and served and excellent meal and staffed the bar. Musical entertainment was provided by pupils from Linlithgow Academy. There was a raffle and an auction which helped raise the total earnings to over £2,000.

September 2012 - West Lothian Delegation visit Grapevine

West Lothian DelegationA delegation of 21 representatives from West Lothian visited Grapevine during September 2012. The delegation included Provost Tom Kerr, three West lothian Council officers, a team of six young golfers and their coach, five young musicians with their instructor and a piper and three members of the West lothian Grapevine Twinning Association.

The delegation were well looked after in Grapevine and enjoyed visits to civic facilities and participation in the annual Grapefest (See www.grapevinetexasusa.com/grapefest for more details of Grapefest). The visit co-incided with a visit from Parras de la Fuente in Mexico, which is another of Grapevine's sister cities (as is Krems in Austria).

Six young golfers from West Lothian travelled to Grapevine with their coach to defend the Gallagher Trophy against a team of six Grapevine golfers. They were not successful but thoroughly enjoyed the experience and made lasting friendships.

In September a party of 6 school golfers, with a teacher, travelled to Grapevine to defend the Galagher Golf Trophy, won by West Lothian in 2009.

A party of seven delegates from Grapevine, including Mayor William Tate, visited West Lothian from 4th to 8th April and we are sure that they have taken lasting memories back to Texas with them.

Marching Youth Band and Delegation Visit in June

In June 2008 the Colleyville Heritage High School Panther Marching Band of 40 young people from Grapevine visited West Lothian along with a community delegation of around 25 people.  The band, which stayed at Oatridge College, took take part in Linlithgow Marches, Armadale Gala Day and other events. <More>

A party from West Lothian visited Grapevine in September 2007 and were given exceptional treatment by the people of Grapevine.
